Allstate – A Case Study in Change Management

Though Allstate could appear to be part of a conservative, risk-averse, and perhaps even staid industry, in fact, insurance is actually a sector in which there has been nothing but change, and Allstate has been right at the forefront. The organization has been named a top technology innovator numerous times; has been a pioneer in environmental and social impact reporting; and has also just been named a ‘Top Company for Executive Women’ - and all this while maintaining its status as the nation’s largest publicly-held insurer. Our host, Connie Brohman and colleague Mark Nogal from Investor Relations, will give us an overview of Allstate’s business and its executive recruiting function’s journey to date, plus how it is now integrated into an HR center of excellence focused solely on executives, and what that means for the function moving forward.

1:00 pm          ‘Recruit Rockstars’ – How to Find, Hire, and Keep the Best of the Best

Ninety percent of business problems are actually recruiting problems in disguise, according to the book ‘Recruit Rockstars’, written by our guest speaker Jeff Hyman. Jeff’s book shows how to find, hire, and keep the best of the best, based on a variety of case studies as well as his own experiences –he himself has hired more than 3,000 people over the course of his career. Jeff will talk about his book, and in particular his innovative concepts of the ‘job invitation’, the ‘first date’, the ‘test drive’, and the ‘offer/counter’, all of which could easily translate into the corporate executive recruiting world.
