The Diversity Iceberg

Diversity is very important to all of our members – but are we operating from too narrow a lens? Global financial services firm BlackRock is at the leading edge of delivering against a broader definition of diversity to add greater value to the business. Elizabeth Wallace, Director and Head of the EMEA Executive Search Team at BlackRock, will share her experiences and help us understand how we broaden our focus to the rest of the diversity spectrum, and why it is so important to our organizations to do so.

11:30 am        2017 ESIX Annual Benchmark Survey – Highlights

As is our tradition, we will touch on some highlights from the 2017 Annual Benchmark Survey, discuss any surprises, and use it as a baseline to explore what we might do differently as a function moving forward.

1:30 pm          Recruiting Disruptive Leaders…Who Aren’t Too Disruptive

Our function is often asked to go and find the infamous ‘change agents’, the ‘intra-preneurs’, or ‘disruptive leaders’ who will help our organisations leap to the next level of productivity. Where does one start? Thankfully, Dr Gorkan Ahmetoglu, Lecturer of Business Psychology at University College London has been studying not only how to recruit entrepreneurial, disruptive talent, but also how to make sure that when we hire such leaders, our organisations are not then socially disrupted themselves.

3:00 pm          Diversity: A Lot of Effort, But How to Be Effective?

Unsurprisingly, recruiting diverse talent at the executive level is again the highest priority for corporate executive recruiting leaders, according to this year’s ESIX Annual Benchmark Survey. There’s certainly a lot of energy – and money – being expended on the cause, but results appear to be mixed so far. Joining us for this segment will be Lady Kitty Chisholm and Dr. Shaheena Janjuha-Jivraj, Principals of Boardwalk Leadership, who from their years of experience, studying, teaching and consulting on diversity at the leadership and board level, will share with us their research and tips on how to deliver greater impact with these efforts.
